Plot:
Salamma (Lakshmy Ramakrishnan) who is widowed at an very early age, works as a sweeper in a hospital to raise her two sons and a girl child. Her first son is an alcoholic, and the second one - an autorikshaw driver, is a puppet for his wife. Her daughter gets married to someone, without Salamma's consent.
Though Salamma, the 57 turned old woman, showers unconditional love over them, the sons and the grandson (son of her daughter) were so mild and they are only curious to retain her retirement money.
Then there is Ammani, an orphaned old woman living in the household of Salamma, who earns bread by collecting empty plastic bottles at night and selling them.
Will Salamma's life turn out like Ammani? Watch the film in theaters to know.
What's hot and What is not?
These kind of films are the rarest ones in Kollywood. The film which resembles the real life personalities, who go unnoticed with an untold sad story, stands out with no preachy screenplay.
The casual acting of the old lady and Lakshmy Ramakrishnan has well suited for this drama. Imran Ahmedh’s work in cinematography was remarkable. Ammani with a running time of 90 minutes is well edited, though the entire film was much slower in pace.
On the whole, Ammani is an outstanding film with a moral.
